Workplace Safety
When at your workplace, you should be as vigilant about security as in any other public space. Your work space during the day is accessible by anyone and you should treat it accordingly.
Follow these tips to minimize theft at work:
Do not leave valuables or sensitive documents on display (handbag, brief cases wallet, keys, jewellery). Use your lockable drawers to store valuable items.
Take your lap top with you, secure in a locked cupboard or secure it to a fixed piece of furniture with a Kensington lock. These can be acquired as stationary items.
If you are leaving your computer, ensure that you lock the screen, to prevent others from accessing your documents and email.
If you leave your office during the day, make sure your work desk is secure.
Staff members are responsible for the security of their workstations and the safety of their belongings. You can maximize security by following these procedures at the end of the day.
If you are working late at the office, advise Curtin Security, in case of a Campus evacuation; and for your own safety.
Close windows and curtains and turn off all lights at the end of each day. This prevents potential thieves from assessing possible entrances to the building.
Report any unfamiliar individuals or suspicious behaviour to Curtin Security.
